May is always a transitional month in the Central Basin,
where resident schools of huge Lake Erie Walleye as well as migratory Walleye of all year classes are showing up. Locating these fish usually requires a little time on the water but once located it becomes catching more than fishing and a chance to blow the dust off of those seldom used minnow baits. Walleye Fishing this time of year can be very productive but you need trolling time to determine when and where the walleye show up.Trolling planar boards with Rapalas, Hot n Tots and other tight wobbling baits are productive, and the usual spoons and worm harnesses will work also as the water tempature works into the low 60's. A good local charter boat can give you the opportunity to put a 12 + pound Lake Erie trophy walleye in the boat. Some of the best Lake Erie charter boats are located right here in the Grand River and Fairport Harbor to take advantage of Lake Erie trophy walleye. |
