The Yellow perch Fishing has really started to heat up in the Central Basin. The small ones are starting to give way to the larger fish and getting bigger every day with the average size around 9-10 inches and the occasional 12 incher. With Emerald Shiners being there favorite food source so be sure to bring an ample supply of them because you will sure need them with the BITE ON. Pinpoint anchoring on contour changes and drop offs is key to getting them going, and once you get them going you must keep them going with lots of fresh bait coming back to the bottom quickly. This will usually lead to doubles and triples every time down. Spreaders and crappie rigs will work fine I like to use a heavy sinker around 2 ounces depending on the current, it gets you to the bottom quicker and less tangles with multiple anglers.
Fairport Harbor, Oh is right in the middle of the central basin with lots of good bottom and structure to fish. I can usually find Perch within 2 miles of the light house. 6 man perch charters are not that much more than a head boat when you figure the bait and rod rental, with much more attention to putting limits in the boat.
Perch fishing charters on Lake Erie are a great way to spend a day.
